Design Your Life: Spontaneous Adventures

Several months ago prior to taking off for a long business trip — the kids and I were consciously bottling up time together.

I talk to the kids a lot about upcoming trips and they are good at articulating frustration and worry and then we work through it. In general, they do great when I am gone thanks to their rockstar Dad.

On this Fun Friday Off (FFO) we ended up having a big flippn’ spontaneous adventure. This included barbershop hair cuts, Ray’s hamburgers, the world’s coolest yarn shop with an owner that befriended the kids, having Mexican food in a train car, hitting an art gallery opening in the cutest little coffee shop, perfectly-soy hot chocolate for my soy-boy and meeting a delightful and inspiring boutique owner.

And all of this happened in rural Missouri! I splurged and got this lovely watch that CKC dubbed the spontaneous adventure watch. I was going to get a real watch made by the same artist and CKC reminded me that I didn’t even wear a real watch. Yes, my kids regularly inject sensibility that I don’t always possess.

This watch will forever be one of my most joyous and memorable purchases. Watches and compasses can’t predict spontaneous adventures. You must put yourself out there.  SFC now reminds me to put it on…especially when I travel.

Spontaneous adventures make my world go round. When is the last time you had one?
